Tuesday, September 5, 9pm, $6 | The Bronx Bassa Nova band: YUKIJURUSHI | Featuring one of our favorite improv/experimental drummers–Tatsuya Nakatani–in a bizarro lounge setting!
Yukijurushi is a Bossa Nova band. They perform in jazz clubs, honky- tonks, artist lofts, abandoned warehouses, art galleries, on the street, and at weddings. Their music soothes the troubled psyches of modern humanity. They also kick ass. But no matter where they play, or how they play, it is always Bossa Nova. Yukijurushi is comprised of two Japanese plus one native Californian, and their musical backgrounds are as diverse as their cultural backgrounds.
Founding member, percussionist and vocalist Tatsuya Nakatani is known for his drumhead manipulations, improvisations and avant garde music. Guitarist Eiji Obata performs in the New York jazz scene, frequenting in the city’s jazz clubs, restaurants and underground (as part of the MTA’s Music Under New York – aka MUNY – program). Bassist Todd Nicholson is omnipresent in the Vision hardjazz scene. These creative elements come together and become the Yukijurushi sound world.
