We cued the presentation of the Mayoris first budget last week in a post about the finding that as Buffalo shrinks, its per capita income increases.
Today the News reports the unveiling of the budget and the bullet points are pretty compelling.
- net 32 jobs cut
- the line on the property tax levy held
- slightly lower taxes for most residents and businesses
- $2 million more to Buffalo Public Schools
- new funding for after-school programs
- more overtime for police officers investigating major crimes
And though most of this is funded by a major increase in state aid, how itis been allocated and crafted into a budget that delivers against what Mayor Brown calls “part of a comprehensive strategy to stabilize and grow Buffalo” is really quite impressive.
