Reservations are filling fast for The Buffalo Museum of Scienceis Discovery Camps for Spring Break and Summer 2006. The seven specific camps allow children aged 5-12 to learn and explore various science-related activities in various museum galleries.
Spring Break camps include the iYouire a Scientist! Discovery Camp,i April 13-14, which empowers participants to explore scientific areas of interest, and iEarth Day Discovery Camp,i April 17-21, which presents science in an Earth-friendly way and promotes Earth Day consciousness throughout the year.
The five summer camps, scheduled throughout July and August, include the iIce Age Discovery Camp,i July 17-21, where campers will unearth the fossil mysteries of the Western New York Region from 10,000 years ago. From mastodons to Ice Age beavers the size of black bears, the collection houses more than 15,000 specimens that have inspired the activities and explorations designed for this camp.
iKitchen Science Campi (July 24-28) allows children to mix ingredients in daily snacks (and toys), while exploring food and eating styles from around the world. There are also opportunities to have fun with mathematics.
iAncient Egypt Campi (July 31-Aug. 4) allows campers to explore and experience life as a child of Egypt. Activities include creating Egyptian toys and instruments and building a pyramid.
The museum is partnering with NASA for this summeris iAstronomy Discovery Camp,i Aug. 7-11. Special focus will be placed on NASA astronauts and solar and lunar eclipses.
The iCulture Connections Discovery Campi (Aug. 14-18) features the exploration of indigenous cultures, with a special focus on Native American traditions. Campers will enjoy a featured storyteller and drummer throughout the week.
