The Red Brick Market opened its doors to the public in 1979. Actually, before the building hosted a market, it was a firehouse… home to Engine 11 back in 1880. Rich Products currently uses the structure to showcase its frozen delights that line the walls and cases of their very manageable space. The market is open to the public, but I wonder how much of the public is really aware of the market. When I stopped in, a customer was at the front counter loading up on a case of Coffee Rich Non Dairy Coffee Creamer. I asked the guy if he owned a restaurant and he smiled and said, “Nope, this is for the house… I love this stuff.” Obviously!
The attendant behind the counter, Kevin, was very helpful and pointed out all of the different products that the market stocks daily. Most everything is branded with the Rich label except for the recent introduction of the well-known Battistoni frozen meats. Battistoni is located on Dingens in Buffalo, and they produce an assortment of frozen products including proscuitto, Genoa salami and capocollo. But it is the Rich brand that really draws in the customers.
Kevin pointed out the frozen eclairs, which are incredibly popular. He also noted that the frozen cookie dough, creme puffs and puddings are always in high demand. Then there is the non-dairy section which is where customers can find non-dairy on-top toppings, whipped toppings, French toast sticks, onion petals, pizzatas, butterfly shrimp, battered mushrooms and pastas. These items are shipped all over the world, yet the Red Brick Market offers them to Buffalonians right across the street from the Rich factory. If a customer stops in early in the morning on their way to work, there is a fresh display of donuts and a coffee waiting for them inside.
The number of frozen items that the market stocks is really somethingOe I had no idea there were so many frozen food choices. It’s a real eye-opener and attribute to this company located on Buffalo’s West Side. The market even houses a food service school towards the back of the building where restaurateurs, food brokers and hotel managers can take a two-day food service class. The latest products are always featured at the Red Brick Market. Today Kevin showed me the newest Rich concoctions… calada, daiquiri and platano drink mixes. There is always something new when one stops into this market. Located at the end of Ferry at Niagara, the market is easy to get to and always has a great selection of locally produced finds. And I didn’t even mention the cheese sticks, pie shells, ravioli, strudels, cheese cake, key lime torte, bananas foster….
The dessert list goes on and on. You can even have desserts and cakes custom built for you from Dessert Builders. It’s all located at 1197 Niagara Street. 716.878.8821
