iWe gotta get behind this.i
That was the message heard loud and clear at the press conference held Thursday by the Preservation League of New York State at The New Phoenix Theatre on the Park. If youire a homeowner in Allentown, West Village or Hamlin Park, youill understand precisely why.
The Historic Home Rehabilitation Tax Credit is under consideration for inclusion in the final NYS budget resolution. The decision will be made in just four weeks, but the impact could be felt for years to come. If passed, this provision could mean as much as $50K per year for qualified historic registry homes in the form of tax credits for renovation and restoration costs. Homeowners with an income too low to benefit from tax credits could qualify for an outright refund.
Allentown, Hamlin Park & West Village Neighborhoods are on the 2006 Seven to Save list. This makes homeowners in these areas eligible for Historic Home Rehabilitation Tax Credits n IF the provision is included in the final budget resolution.
The call to action at the end of this press-conference-turned-pep-rally-for-preservation was for everyone to write or e-mail a legislator today, and to write Letters to the Editor any of our local or state newspapers.
But we Buffalo Rising Online readers/bloggers are far more creative than that. How about some new and innovative ways to make our esteemed legislative body in Albany get the message n preservation means growth and prosperity. Provide the means and incentives to those willing and able to undertake this critical task on a neighborhood-by-neighborhood, structure-by-structure basis. And do it NOW.
As a prospective home buyer cautiously considering properties, this tax credit would certainly make me look primarily at historic homes in need of restoration Oe How about you?
