What: Buffalo’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade
When: Sunday, March 19, at 2:00 PM
Where: Delaware Avenue, from Niagara Square to North Street
In case you thought Buffalo’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade was a relatively new tradition, here’s a picture of the 1946 extravaganza:
Buffalo’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade is presented by the United Irish American Association (UIAA). The UIAA is a volunteer, non-profit organization — its members raise funds and coordinate the tremendous amount of behind-the-scenes work necessary to present Buffalo’s parade.
UIAA President John Fecio noted that this year’s theme is Hail to St. Patrick, God Bless America, and Support Our Troops. He said the Parade is part of Buffalo’s history. “The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a Buffalo tradition. There are people who attended or participated as children and they now bring their own children and grandchildren to share in the festivities. Delaware Avenue becomes a sea of celebration and fellowship as we honor our city, our nation, and the contributions Irish-Americans have made to both.”
Led by this year’s Grand Marshal, Michael O’Sullivan, the parade will feature Irish dancers, bagpipe bands, school bands, community organizations, and many others. Come and join your fellow Buffalonians in celebrating this Buffalo tradition — as the saying goes, “Everybody’s Irish today!”
