The Art Historians Association (AHA) is at it again ! The Albright-Knox and Birchfield-Penney aren t the only art galleries that exist in Buffalo. On top of the Albright s Gusto at the Gallery program, the Burchfield-Penney s Happy Hours, and the last Friday of the month Gallery Walks that ensue along the streets of downtown Buffalo; a newly developed art walk, Fresh Air Fresh Art, includes stops at local galleries, restaurants, and bars.
Urban Creatives are a young group of art enthusiasts comprised mostly of Buffalo State s Art Historians Association (AHA). After spending hours, days, and weeks outside of their grueling school schedules, they re attending current art openings across the city and working hard to promote the Allen/Elmwood artists and galleries. Many small businesses on Allen Street and Elmwood Avenue have agreed to open their doors for attendees of the art walk to stop in and appreciate the local district.
Intended to be a come-and-go as you please outing, the art walk has a few set points and possible prizes at certain times. The meet-up point is at Caf 59, on the corner of Allen Street and Franklin Avenue, at 6 p.m. on the agenda.
At approximately 6 p.m., tickets for prizes will go up for sale. Prizes include gift certificates from local businesses such as Don Apparel, Sweet and Dirty, and H.O.D.
There are many art show openings at surrounding galleries in the Allentown area. Gallery 164, 164 Allen, has an opening reception of photography by Jim Bush titled, Movement Through Space and Time which begins at 7 and runs until 10 p.m.
Elmwood Framing and Interiors Gallery, 245 Elmwood, is currently exhibiting work by Bethany Andrew, a Buffalo State Graphic Design major.
The Neighborhood Collective, 810 Elmwood, is having a grand opening of Michael Morgulis new gallery from 7 -9 p.m.
Other points to hit during the evening include Sixworks Gallery, Buffalo Big Print, and College Street Gallery.
The Fresh Air Fresh Art walk is intended to bring a rise to the existing art culture in Buffalo and to develop notorious arts internships for students across the community, while developing a feeling of community and an understanding of businesses and participants in all aspects of the art world.
