Away from the North American concert circuit for more than two decades, rock legends Queen, now joined forces with Paul Rodgers, announce they are to play a 23-date US tour this Spring. Queen plus Paul Rodgers will be stopping at HSBC Arena on Friday, March 17th, 2006.
iIt’s natural to be wary about the project. Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, who died in 1991, was one of the rock world’s unique characters, and is utterly irreplaceable,i said Jay Lustig, of the Star-Ledger, when reviewing from the Continental Arena show. Lustig continued, iYet Rodgers is not merely an imitator. With his booming, stately voice, he has a distinctive style, and adds his own hits to the showi. The collaboration between Queen and Paul Rodgers was cemented after their performance that brought the house to its feet at the UK Music Hall of fame.
iThere was a natural chemistry between us when we performed together in London. Brian and Roger brought a new dimension to my songs,i said Rodgers. iThe idea took hold for us to do something together after that, and the momentum has taken on a life of its own.i That momentum then took shape as a 32-date European tour this past spring, and a major Japanese fall tour with 2 stopover concerts in the US. This tour has revived the same kind of audience worship scenes first experienced by Queen circa e80s; unquestionable validation that this many years on, and albeit with a different front man, the power of queenis music and musicianship remains undiminished in the passage of time. Serving up blistering versions of iWe Will Rock You,i iWe Are The Champions,i iBohemian Rhapsodyi iCrazy Little Thing Called Lovei along with “Bad Company,” “Feel Like Makin’ Love” and so much more, the current band line up is: Paul Rodgers (vocals, guitar & piano), original Queen members Brian May (guitar & vocals), Roger Taylor joined by Danny Miranda, ex-Blue Oyster Cult on bass, Jamie Moses, former Brian May band member on second guitar, and Spike Edney, long-time Queen sideman on keyboards.
