Ugly Duckling Presse ~ Feb 19 & 20 ~ Discussion with the editors, translators, and poets who run this New York City-based small press. Ugly Duckling Presse is a nonprofit art and publishing collective producing small to mid-size editions of new poetry, translations, lost works, and artist’s books. Its full-length books, chapbooks, artist’s books, broadsides, magazine, and newspaper all contain handmade elements, calling attention to the labor and history of bookmaking. Toronto Invasion ~ February 26 & 27 ~ Reading alongside two other Toronto-based poets is Robert Read who grew up outside of Komoka, a small town in rural Ontario and has lived in Toronto for the past eight years. In 2005 he published two novellas in the shape of a guillotine, a collaboration with hypnotherapist AEM. Just released is O Spam, Poams which collects the very best of Read’s daily treated spam. Paul Muldoon ~ March 26 & 27 ~ The Times Literary Supplement has named Paul Muldoon “the most significant English-language poet born since the Second World War.” A native of Northern Ireland, Muldoon is the author of nine books of poetry, including Moy Sand and Gravel , which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2003. He currently directs the creative writing program at Princeton University. Reading March 2 at Canisius College.
