Forget the heart-shaped cards, flowers and boxes of expensive chocolates, because this year V-Day means more than just Valentines Day… it also means Victory and Vagina. No, really. V-Day Buffalo presents a special benefit performance of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues this Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Elmwood Avenue. So just who or what is V-Day Buffalo, anyway? V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. Through a variety of creative events all over the world, V-Day participants hope to increase awareness of – and raise money to fight – rape, battery, incest, genital mutilation and sexual slavery. In 2004, more than 2000 V-Day events were held in the United States and around the world, raising much-needed funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities. Proceeds from the V-Day Buffalo performances of The Vagina Monologues will benefit Crisis Services and RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network). Tickets are $15, available for presale at New World Records.
