One theme that came through in yesterdayis casino dialogue is the claim by casino advocates that those against it are obstructionistothat folks are just against the casino for the sake of being contrary and to get in businessi way.
For the record, Buffalo Rising is remarkably pro-business. We support entrepeneurs with vision who are, with their money and incredible effort, making communities where others see no possibility other than seeding land to a sovereign nation. The efforts of developers like Chris Jacobs with his Cobblestone project and Benjamin Obletzi Lofts@Elk Terminal need to be praised, promoted and encouraged. All things we like to think weire doing. Shouldnit the City and State do the same, instead of discouraging, almost punishing these visionary efforts by putting a casino right in the middle of themoa casino with no history, inclination or compelling interest to compliment the entrepreneurial efforts and investment thatis already being made by local developers?
Many of us who are anti-casino are against it not because we object to gambling, or because weire grain silo huggers, or because we like to get in the way. Weire anti-casino because we believe in the vision of developers like Jacobs and Obletz who have already put real skin in the game and who are working toward turning that part of downtown into something like this.
Those who think a Seneca casino is the only way to get things going in that part of downtown, I encourage you to check out the links above to see what’s already happening.
