Jeff Langton and Dan ‘Spar’ Sparham are Moving Fusion. After initially meeting at school in Hornchurch, they discovered a mutual love of hardcore. Spar’s musical fascination began courtesy of his dad, a 70s DJ, by his mid-teens he was already getting to grips with his own decks and mixer. Jeff meanwhile, also had a growing infatuation, with sound. Inspired by Andy C and fellow school mate Shimonis ‘Quest/Nightflight’, which was garnering attention in mid-’95, he invested in an Akai sampler by the age of 19 and began getting to grips with the manual in his bedroom. Six months later he was joined by Spar and the essence of Moving Fusion began to emerge.
Once happy with the quality of their production, they made their debut release eBass Controli as Outta Dynamics on Trouble on Vinyl in 1997. A fortnight later they delivered ‘Turbulence’ their debut for RAM. The track, used as a sampler for the ‘Sound In Motion’ compilation in April’98, and voted No. 1 Drum & Bass Track of that year by Mixmag, ensured they made their mark at the label. By March i99 they were making waves again with the acclaimed ‘The Beginning EP’ featuring ‘The Beginningi, ‘Combat’, ‘Brainstorm’ and ‘Sex Drive’.
Since its inception, Moving Fusion has been about quality over quantity and this year (2002) theyive acquired their own studio in Whitechapel which is adding a fresh dimension to their sound. They have consistently offered up anthemic tunes incorporating heavy, rounded, basslines and dripping in space-age funk, with influences spanning everything from, techno and ragga to heavy metal – the main stab in eAtlantisi comes from a Barry White track.
Additionally theyive delivered collaborations with Andy C including eFoulmouthi and Shimon including eThe Aliasi and eHangmani. Theyive recorded for Red Oneis Ratio imprint (eLiving Like Thisi), turned in remixes for labels including Warner Brothers (US), Infrared, Renegade Hardware, and BC Recordings and feature on all three Ram Raiders compilations. 2001is titanic release, eThunderballi, was a favourite with Jo Whiley on Radio 1 which also featured heavily in Sky Sportsi football footage and appeared on Hypeis eFabric Livei compilation in 2002. Their debut artist album, eThe Start of Somethingi, was released in autumn 2002.
