In keeping with this week’s casino theme…What does the future hold for the former Fairmont Creamery Co. building at 199 Scott Street? Though many would consider it “progress” to see it gone, Ellicott Development, the current owner had bigger plans as recently as last year. Carl Paladino, has previously stated that he was planning to turn the building into lofts. Then again, Carl was also planning lofts for the H-O complex across the street. That building is now on its way to a landfill, truck-by-truck.
The prominent eight-story brick structure was built in 1920 and expanded in 1958. It was the long-time home of The Fairmont Creamery and later used by Rich Products for refrigerated storage. Containing approximately 122,000 square feet, the building is the tallest non-silo structure in the Cobblestone District and is adjacent to the fully-leased Elk Terminal Lofts. It was damaged by fire in June 1996 and its upper-floor windows remain open to the elements. Ellicott Development, which has owned the building since at least 2001, has not announced what it now intends to do with the property.
Stay tuned.
