Tonight will be the second of Ars Nova’s Viva Vivaldi concert series. If you’ve never gone to any of these performances, (the festival is now in it’s 27th year,) you should definitely consider checking it out. Foremost, there is the amazing musicianship under the direction of Marylouise Nanna, which really brings the varied baroque selections to life. Some of the area’s finest players, and singers, contribute their talents to these concerts. And while Vivaldi is the favored composer, expect to hear some of his contemporaries as well- tonight’s bill, for example, will feature selections from Torelli, Tartini and Handel in addition to a pair of Vivaldi concertos.
If that weren’t enough, the Viva Vivaldi concert venues themselves should entice- each performance of the series (4 each year) takes place in an area church. The first concert this season, last Sunday, was at 1st Presbyterian Church, and tonight’s will take place at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Among Buffalo’s many architectural treasures, our church architecture really shines, and this is an exceptional opportunity to see what’s inside some of these buildings.
Viva Vivaldi: 6:30 pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1080 Main St. The price of admission is your donation.
