Into the Realm of Fantasy with Marc Chagall and Girogio di Chirico takes place November 19th at 11:00 am in the Albright-Knox gallery auditorium.
Dancers, fiddle players, chickens, churches, cows, horses, and fish all abound in the paintings of Marc Chagall, whose fantastic and colorful compositions seem to be from a different world. Italian artist Giorgio de Chirico, too, combined unusual objects in his mysterious and metaphysical compositions. The meaning of this work is not always clear, but it is fascinating and vaguely disconcerting.
This lecture series is presented by Curator of Education Mariann Smith, who will speak about many of the artists represented in the Gallery s exhibition of the permanent collection entitled On View: Stellar Works from the Collection.
Inset: Marc Chagall (French, born Russia, 1887 1985). La vie paysanne (Peasant Life), 1925. Oil on canvas, 39 3/8 x 31 1/2″ (100 x 80 cm.). Collection Albright-Knox Art Gallery. Room of Contemporary Art Fund, 1941.
