During 1883-1884, Governor Grover Cleveland and Assemblyman Theodore Roosevelt entered into a reform-based association independent of their partisan affiliations and destined to continue for many years after. In retrospect, their cooperation and consultation in setting a reform agenda for New York State foretold the shift from the early 19th century presidency to the full-fledged legislative-executive of the 20th century.

Dr. Slavin is Professor Emeritus at Buffalo State College and a U.S. presidency scholar. She is completing a book on Grover Clevelandis Buffalo years entitled, The Swan Street Story. A reception will follow the lecture.
