I ran into Dave from The TreeHouse Toy Store this past Saturday, and I asked him how the turnout was for helping to decorate the avenue this year. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said. “Everyone that said they were showing up did. And they brought their friends and family along.”
Hmmm. I remember the days when you couldn’t drag anyone out to help with this sort of thing. I had heard from Lacy (from Diggin’ It!) earlier that day that they had actually organized teams to help with the festivities. She explained, “Lisa Caywood from the Ruby Slipper and myself organized everyone for today’s decorating. We divide all of the tasks into “teams” and signed people up for each team. Dave from TreeHouse and Ward from Urban Clothing helped direct everyone for the “Team Lights” and light hanging.”
It was true. These guys were organized. Volunteers brought ladders, and strands of lights (70 boxes at last count), and ribbon, and anything else they could get their hands on. I ran into Seaghan from Campus Wheelworks (inset photo) who brought his mom along with him. The folks from Presence were present, Joanne from The Co-op (top photo) helped out along with Tom from Watson’s Candy.
It helped that it was a balmy 60 degrees out that day (I checked the Now Channel of BRO to be sure), and there was relatively no wind. Up until now there really have been no signs of the winter season approaching. Fall has been spectacular. With the addition of all the new stores on the avenue along with a top notch decorating crew, this season should be outstanding.
