This film has one of the best car chase scenes, which travels at a dizzying speed throughout the streets of San Francisco. The scene earned the movie an Oscar for best editing in 1968. Jacqueline Bisset and Robert Duvall make guest appearances in this Steve McQueen thriller. In 1968 there were relatively no major special fx crews for these types of movies. That’s what makes ’em so good. The action is high paced, the actors can actually act, and there is a realism in movies such as Bullitt that can not be found in many of today’s films. It was movies like Bullitt that turned Steve McQueen into both a heavy hitting and a high demand actor. Plus, when do you get the chance to see these old flicks on the big screen? The film seminars at The Arcade are intriquing. It’s a great way to spend an evening at the movies and not feel like someone just sucked your brain out of your head in the process.
