I am not quite sure where to begin with this team. Instead of mulling over all of the weak spots involved (qb, offensive line, play calling, red zone offense, run defense), I think it would be a lot easier to just compare two teams. The New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills are worlds apart. Anyone who thought differently this year (including myself) was in for the same old reality check.
Two weeks ago I was trying to get suggestions for a nickname for this Defense that was supposed to make history. Now, after three games into the season, the Bills have the worst run defense in the league and have lost Takeo Spikes for the entire season. It has become all too real that this will be another year of growing pains while they try and find an identity that has been lost since the days of Kelly and Company. I understand that Losman is going to need some time to develop but how can you explain missing wide open receivers time and time again.
The bottom line is that the Bills beat the worst team in football in week one and have been manhandled by anyone resembling a contender the past 2 weeks. Until the Patriots move to the NFC or Belichick decides to retire, there will be the same off-season dreaming and regular season reality check that so many fans have chosen to endure.
The Bills have a very long road ahead of them and I will be the first one to stop drinking the Cool Aid that Tom Donahoe has been passing out the past few years. I think he has done some great things for this team but the bleeding has got to stop and if that means giving some other guys a shot; then so be it. Until this organization builds an offensive and defensive line that can open and close the holes, Buffalo will continue to have one of the best teams on paper and it will be just as easy to burn.
One last tidbit before signing off – Has ANYBODY been paying attention to the Dolphins??!! The Fish have beaten the Denver Broncos and Super Bowl contender Panthers in the first few weeks of the Nick Saban Era. He is already being mentioned in the same breath as Belichick. Can you imagine what he would be able to accomplish with the talent in Buffalo? All I have to say is where can we get one?
